Seafoam-AUTO TUNE
« on: Monday, April 11, 2011, 07:47:22 AM »
Don't know if this is the correct section but here goes:

6 months ago I picked up a '93 tracker 8v auto. Took about 6 weeks to get running. All was good except tranny. would drop right in to 1st gear, took 1/2 to 3/4 mi. before it would fall in to 2nd then it would go on good. We changed the fluid and filter. Tryed all the additives, trans medic,lucas,slick50,plus some smaller no-names.Nothing seemed to help. A couple weeks ago I got another filter, figured what the hay. While a Advanced Auto I noticed the SeaFoam Auto-Tune. I am addicted to the origanal SeaFoam. Picked up a can,and some new fliud. Replaced the filter, fluidand added the Auto-Tune. What a difference, she drops into 2nd like she should. It might fly all to pieces on the way home today. But I'm a happy camper right now. :oJust wanted to share this.I luv SEAFOAM!!! ;D

thanks
robert

I've had two of the 3speed autos with the same issue and the sea foam worked great for me too!  Every 6 months or so, the shifting problem comes back.  Another dose of Sea Foam and its good to go!

My Tracker had that issue for the last 2.5 years of its life but it never got any worse over 40k miles so i ignored it..  Haha.
Looking for a new Zuk...

Add me to the list... I took your advise and last week I bought the SEAFOAM TRANS TUNE stuff at Advance Auto...

Mine would not shift at first... then freewheel, when It finally did... for up to 2 miles in cold weather... Around 3/4 mile in hot weather... been putting up with this for several months...

I added half the can, No fluid change or filter change or nothing... I think The PO had mentioned doing that part (he might have used an additive... and it wore off, I don't know)...

Last night, after a week of short trips around town, and maybe 50% improvement... the Trans shifted like there was never a problem... I just got back from another test... Its 100% for sure... still got a half can left...

  Best $6 I ever spent...   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Add me to the list. I had put up with no shifting until hot for years now.
This stuff should be called new transmission in a can.

Still working good here, funny how not being stuck in 1st gear for 15 minutes can get the mpg up from 17 to 22  ::)

My local O'Rielly only stocks 3 of the Seafoam Trans Tune... and they were not included in the sale...  ??? They had space for 30 or more cans of Engine Tune, so Guess thats why they were on sale (and almost sold out).

Well I dropped the pan to put in a new tcc solenoid and readjusted the band.
I didn't refill with seafoam and my late shifts showed back up with trans fluid only.
I was hoping the band adjustment was going to be the trick but wasn't ... proper adjustment was only about one turn further in on the band adjuster.
Oh well the seafoam was the trick to perfect shifting until two hard days out wheeling in hilly areas where some of it evaporated as they state on their website that some of the ingredients evaporate.
Smells a little like alcohol or isopropanol ...
I've still gotta drop the pan one more time the tcc lockup didn't happen and backtracking i noticed there are supposed to be two orings at the tubes going into the solenoid and they were missing.
Here's to the seafoam ! ! !

::) DOH then i realized the ecm i borrowed is for a MT ...

I used a jumper wire incab to the tcc in the harness and it works, other half the can of seafoam and shifting nicely again!

Just revisiting with my updates on the trans

Yea, I forgot... for a minute, I thought you are using it on your 4 speed...

I'm trying it in another 3 speed... It was not getting good vacuum so I pulled the vacuum line off... and it was clogged and full of fluid...  I blew out the fluid... re-attached... and drove it about 4 miles before it started smoking heavy... It was shifting sooner... Mostly I was trying to get the Seafoam circulating throughout... BUT It was also slipping when floored... I think in both 2nd and 3rd...
Will adjusting bands help the slipping any ??

I have a good used modulator... if I can get the old one loose... Skinny Wrench ?? or Lower the Trans ??

Actually The darn thing locked up in the middle of the road... It wouldn't even budge in low range... I hate leaving a car in the road !!! By the time I hitched a ride back to the house and returned with a jack... it had cooled down and all 4 wheels were free... had to be a stuck piston in one of the calipers... brother !!!

(this is a rust free '94 Tracker Tin Top... I bought in SC a few years ago... speedometer shows 180K miles)

This is also the car I referred to... on another thread... that had the engine with so much crank case blow by... that the air flow was causing the oil to pool up in the head... (now I know some of that smoke was coming from the burning of transmission fluid...)

I've already replaced the engine... NOW I gotta track down the sticky caliper problem... and replace the leaky modulator... before I can know if the Seafoam is going to help me with the shifting...  The slipping gets worse the longer I drive... to the point where it barely pulls the car...

No, mine is a 3l30 th180c ... I didn't have any slippage only the no shift until hot.
This is the thread that convinced me to try the seafoam and is crosslinked to another thread with the band adjustment being the fix for another member
